Water…an essential for life. Unfortunately, in the past few years, bodies of water throughout the nation have experienced frequent blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms. These blooms (or dense surface scums) form and increase the risk of toxin contamination of surface waters. Cyanobacteria is of special concern because of its potential impact on drinking and recreational water. Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms, (cyanoHABs) has the ability to produce toxins and other noxious chemicals. The control and management of cyanobacteria in surface water and the treatment of cyanotoxins in drinking water is critical to protect human health. Controlling the cause and source the blue-green algae is of major importance.
